The project's ultimate goal is to highlight the under-used potential of rooftop spaces in densely built and populated cities like Tokyo, and to encourage discovering their full potential for the benefit of the community and individuals.

Rooftop Urbanism is an urban and architectural research project started by me, Veronika Ikonnikova, in 2017. Most of the materials presented on this website were developed in 2017-2018 as part of my architecture graduate thesis for the Master's program in the University of Tokyo. Since graduation my great passion for exploration and secretive rooftop spaces has only grown, leading me to continue pursuing the project through photographic and drawing media.

If you love rooftops and urban complexity as I do, be sure to sign up for the newsletter to not miss out on important project updates. The next exciting milestone is a design-build project on the rooftops of Tokyo, and there may be opportunities to get involved directly.

If you have any inquiries about the project, interested in collaboration or have anything relevant to share/contribute—do not hesitate to get in touch, I would love to hear from you.
